FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
December, 2007 Life and Death
Among other considerations, life and death portrays a beginning and an ending. Life and death holds a definite reality for each of us. Though each of these can be manipulated to some extent, they are a reality that is inevitable. Eternity can result in life or death, spiritually. God has a great plan for each of us concerning life. Life everlasting is offered by God through Jesus Christ, his son. A simple, confident belief in who Jesus is and that God raised him from the dead will inaugurate an individual into the family of God. God then desires that there be growth faithfully in order to fulfill his will in our lives. Non-compliance is sin and therefore brings death eternally. John 12:24 talks of a death that is necessary for life to have its potential and success. Paul talks of dying daily. The bible talks of being dead to sin and being buried into death. Romans 6:6 says, our old man is crucified with Jesus, that the body of sin might be destroyed and that we should not serve sin. The previous verse says we are planted in the likeness of his death. There is great hope with the death issue! God, through Jesus Christ, offers life through the death, burial and resurrection of his son. Romans 6:4 says, since God raised Jesus from the dead, we should walk (live) in newness of life and continues in the next verse that if we are planted with Jesus in death, we will also be in the likeness of his resurrection. Death has no more dominion over the believer. Life begins with death. Life is a good thing. Solomon, in so many words said, “life comes and it goes”. It is within our power what we do concerning the inevitable. Jesus lived and died as a human being. His last comment was, “it is finished”. Paul’s last comments were, “I fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”. It is imperative that we are willing and obedient concerning death because it is the only way to eternal life. What are we going to die out to in the new year? Are we going to uphold our commitment with God? He upholds his. Previous Pastor's Desk Commentaries:
